Goodsell Lane
(Refresh)

I painted Goodsell Lane, a bustling thoroughfare leading to St. Peters train station situated near the culturally significant May’s Lane in 2023. Issues with sun reflection offered a chance to refresh the mural that honors Sydney’s rich street art legacy, the mural currently features Sydney native plant, the flannel flower (Actinotus helianthi).
A refreshed design incorporated elements of the original design alongside the depiction of a mermaid, symbolising the city’s deep connection between its coastal and terrestrial environments.

As guardians of the sea, mermaids are apt symbols for a city intertwined with its waters. They embody the dual nature of beauty and peril—both benevolent and malevolent—bringing luck and wealth or doom and disaster. The work reflects the complex, multifaceted nature of a city, that of being both nurturing and fierce.
